Athirapally and Vazhachal are among the most majestic waterfalls in the State. These picturesque locations have attracted people for ages with their lush greenery and stunning views. At Athirapally, one can see water crashing into the Chalakudy River from 80 ft high. A cool breeze takes over the terrain and people are left enchanted at this natural wonder.

In the lower hills of the Western Ghats lies the beautiful Malampuzha township whose lush greenery and plethora of picnic spots make it a must visit spot in these areas. It has really good trekking trails that are available to all with a penchant for the same. Malampuzha Gardens and the Irrigation Dam tend to be the areas that attract the highest number of visitors. Apart from being perfect picnic spots, there is a host of interesting trivia surrounding the place that adds to its appeal.

Dhoni Falls is just the perfect getaway for adventure enthusiasts looking for something more out of their trip to Palakkad. Pinned all-around by dense forest and country-side charm, the Dhoni Falls are popular as a quick and refreshing hike.

From the town of Nenmara in Palakkad district, the cloud-caressed peaks of the majestic Nelliyampathy Hill ranges are a sight to behold. The height of the hills ranges from 467 m to 1,572 m and it has an extremely calming effect on all who view it. To reach Nelliyampathy, one has to take the road starting from Nenmara that proceeds to the Pothundy Dam. There are about 10 hairpin bends that have to be negotiated on the way to Nelliyampathy.

Nilambur, a place known for teak plantations and tribal settlements. Proximity to the Nilgiri ranges of Western Ghats blesses Nilambur with ample rainfall, waterfalls and lush green rain forests. In addition to teak, there are many mahogany, rosewood and bamboo plantations here as well.

The Sree Kadampuzha Bhagavathy Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kiratha Parvathy. The temple is famous for not having an idol and daily poojas (prayers) are performed into a hole. The Goddess is said to have disappeared from here, after showing her presence to Adi Sankaracharya. It is believed that Adi Sankaracharya, the legendary 8th-century Indian philosopher, and theologian, is the founder of this temple.

Tour Plan

Athirappilly is famous for its biggest waterfall in Kerala (Niagara of Kerala) . It is also famous for greenery due to the thick sholayar forest, beautiful countryside due to Chalakudi River, a couple of water theme parks – all these make Athirapally tour a memorable trip for tourists. There are two nearby waterfalls called Charpa and Vazhachal fall to see. Charpa waterfall is located 3 km from Athirapally waterfalls towards Vazachal on the way to Sholayar Dam. Vazhachal falls is laid back and gently cascading on the rocks which is not that much of slop. With the backdrop of the lush green forest, the scenic beauty is very good and a good place for a memorable photo. Thumboormuzhi dam and garden and a hanging bridge, which are the main attraction. When you walk on this bridge, you can see Chalakudi river flows under your feet, view from the middle of the river, and one of the best places for photography.

The Pothundy Dam is a beautiful locale with facilities for boating and is a nice option as a picnic place. The hills of Nelliyampathy are also well known for their orange cultivation. The bio-farms located here are a major landmark as one proceeds up before reaching the topmost point at Palagapandi Estate. Not far away from Palagapandy is Seetharkundu where one can have a fantastic view of the valley and a 100-m high waterfall providing an added attraction. From Palagapandy, one can trek or go by jeep to reach Mampara Peak (Raja’s Cliff), another breathtaking vantage point at Nelliyampathy. If time permits visit Kesavanpara and Karapara. Overnight Stay @ Nelliyampathy.
Check-out & Departure towards Malampuzha Dam, one of the largest reservoirs of Kerala. The dam has many attractions nearby like the rock garden, ropeway, amusement park and visitors often enjoy boating here as well. Some major tourist attractions near Malampuzha Dam are Entrance Garden, Yakshi Garden, Japanese Garden, Upper Garden and viewpoint, Cable car ride, Fish shaped aquarium, Toy train for kids, Fantasy Park, Spiced fruits camp along with some excellent trekking tracks and river baths. The ropeway, which takes the people on an aerial tour of the park and the gigantic Yakshi (who is an enchantress) sculptured by Kanai Kunhiraman, a renowned sculptor of Kerala; attracts a lot of travelers here. If Time Permits visit Kava view point, Kava is a scenic region surrounded by hills covered in dense forestation with a serene lake. The picturesque site is a treat to nature lovers who visit often for nature walks and treks. Morning Check-out & Visit Palakkad Fort. Palakkad Fort is an old fort situated in the heart of Palakkad town, remains one of the best-preserved forts in Kerala. Proceed towards Dhoni Falls. Adyanpara and Valamthode waterfalls the stunningly beautiful waterfalls surrounded by the green forest is a refreshing experience. Nilambur Kovilakam is another popular attraction.
Visit Nedumkayam Teak Forest. One of the beautiful and dense forests in Kerala with a splendid variety of flora and fauna, Nedumkayam is ideal for trekking. A 3-hour trek will take you to Mundakadav waterfalls. Check-out & Departure Malappuram. Malappuram literally means a land atop hills and the region is enriched by three great rivers flowing through it - the Chaliyar, Kadalundi and the Bharathapuzha. Visit places around Malappuram. Kottakkunnu, Known as Marine Drive of Malappuram is a hill garden. Arimbra Hills or Mini Ooty is one of the most scenic places to visit in Malappuram. The place is called mini Ooty because of its resemblance to the hill station of the same name, and a rather famous one at that. Located at a height of about 1,050 feet above sea level, you can get a breathtaking view of the area around. Kodikuthimala, a hill station at a height of 522 m above MSL. Walk through lush green valleys amid perennial springs, crystal-clear waterfalls and misty atmosphere. Soak in the fresh air and feel refreshed and younger. Apart from the ever-flowing springs and waterfalls, a watchtower and a suicide point are the main attractions at the hill station. Shopping and Overnight stay @ Malappuram.
Check out and visit Kadampuzha Temple. The main deity of this temple is Goddess Parvati/Durga in the form of a huntress. There is no idol of Goddess in this temple, and she is worshipped in a pit. Padinjarekkara Beach is the visual of the confluence of the Bharathapuzha, the Tirur Puzha and the Arabian Sea. Water scooters, speed boats or idle cruises, take your pick and simply float out into the pristine aquatic behemoths that promise to envelop you. Ananganmala, The wide range lush green forest occupies varieties of wild life and plants. Among the usual plants and wild life everyone can also spot medicinal plants. Bharathapuzha, one of the famous rivers in Kerala, is an attraction of this area.
